Things to Know Before Your First Bridal Appointment

Finding the perfect wedding dress is an exciting, sentimental journey that you will remember lovingly for the rest of your life. At The Bride & Groom, we’re dedicating to giving our brides the best dress shopping experiences possible, so we have gathered a few tips to help you ensure that you get the most out of your bridal appointment:

Start Early

A word of advice: it is never too early to start wedding dress shopping. We’ve found that many brides underestimate how lengthy the process of finding the perfect gown can be! From trying on dozens of options, to having your selected dress hand-sewn by your designer, and then, finally, alterations, it can take several months before your gown is aisle-ready. We recommend that you begin your search as soon as you get engaged to avoid any last-minute time crunches.

On the day of your bridal appointment, we recommend that you arrive at our boutique wearing intimates that won’t distract from the look or feel of the gowns as you try them on. You will want to opt for undergarments that are as similar as possible to what you would likely be wearing on your wedding day, which typically means strapless bras, seamless panties, and no bright colors. Nude or white-toned intimates, preferably free from bulky textures or embellishments, are your safest bet.

We know your Pinterest boards and Instagram screenshots are probably already full of gowns you’ve fallen in love with while scrolling, and we’d love to see them! Do some research on different dress options and bring pictures of designs that have caught your eye along to your appointment. This gives us an idea of your personal style, and helps us show you your dream dress that much faster!

Lastly, your dress shopping experience would simply not be complete without a few of your favorite people along for the journey. The advice they can offer you is invaluable, and you will appreciate being surrounded by loved ones to help guide you through. With that being said, we recommend that you be mindful when selecting your guests, because the last thing you want on such a special day is to be overwhelmed by too many opinions.
